How to Track Satellites Live

Learn how to read live latitude, longitude, altitude and speed, choose a Starlink spacecraft, and calculate upcoming passes from your location.

Understand the track

What is a NORAD ID?

A catalog number used to identify Earth-orbiting objects. Exact IDs give fast lookup.

Why two tracking systems?

Earth satellites use orbital elements and SGP4. Voyager, JWST and interplanetary missions use JPL Horizons ephemerides.

What is a geometric pass?

A period when an Earth-orbiting satellite is above your geometric horizon. It does not automatically mean the spacecraft is visible to the naked eye.
